Leon Lady Cougars remain undefeated in District 20AA

Leon vs Franklin

The Leon Lady Cougars jumped to a five point advantage at the end of the first period and that was increased to a six point margin at half time. The margin was seven at the end of the third quarter but the Lions stormed back in the fourth quarter and with five seconds left in the fourth quarter and trailing by three the Lions coach called time out to set up a three point shot. The play worked to perfection and the Lion player got off a three point attempt which was all net and tied the score at the buzzer. The Cougars came back in overtime and outscored the Lions 8-4 to win 51-47. Chelsie Padgett had a huge game for the Cougars scoring twenty three points and grabbing nineteen rebounds.

Leon vs Teague

The Lady Cougars faced another Lion team in the Teague Lady Lions and came out with an easier victory 59-35. The Cougars started red hot and scored twenty one points in the first quarter and nine in the second to open up a fifteen point margin at the half. The Cougars increased the margin to eighteen at the end of the third period and continued the scoring by outscoring the Lions by six in the fourth quarter to take home a 59-35 win. Chelsie Padgett continued her stellar play by scoring twenty seven points including seven of ten three point attempts and nabbing nine rebounds. Coach Foley's team continued their strong rebounding and is averaging 52-53 rebounds per game. They are not a tall team but get good position and have the desire and quickness to get more than share of rebounds. They are one of the best rebounding teams in the state.

The Lady Cougars entertain Rosebud-Lott on January 20 and travel to Marlin on January 23.
