Leon JV girls slip by Franklin

Sherry's Shots The Lady Cougars had their hands full as they played an exciting game against the Franklin Lady Lions. Leon came out on top 36-32.

The Lady Lions had a six-point lead as the first quarter ended but Leon rallied and cut the deficit to two by intermission. The Lady Cougars defense held the Lions scoreless in the second period to gain the lead, 16-12, and had a two-point advantage as the third period closed (26-24). With the score tied 32- 32 and 1:30 left in the game, Paige McKenzie nailed a three-pointer and with nine seconds left she dropped in a free throw to give the Cougars the victory, 36- 32.

McKenzie led the Cougars with eleven points and Sharon Coulter followed with 10 points. Courtni Neyland scored 7 points, Chelby Stanford had 3 points, C.C. Grayson controlled the boards on both ends of the court and contributed 2 points. Dannie Watson scored 2 points and Paula Flores added a free throw.

The Cougars entertain Rosebud-Lott on Tuesday, January 20 and travel to Marlin on January 23.
