Oakwood Panthers lose two in District 14A action

The Oakwood Panthers dropped a game to Laneville 80- 59 on January 13 and lost to Slocum 39-29 on January 16.

Oakwood vs Laneville

Oakwood dug themselves a big hole by trailing early 17-2 but closed that deficit to nine by the end of the first quarter (22-13). Eric Ballard hit several shots in the second period to spark a rally and the Panthers trailed by eight at the half (42- 34). Laneville substituted freely in the second half and wore the Panthers down and won 80-59.

Stats for the game: M. Savage 12 points and 3 rebounds; Geral Williams 6 points and 8 rebounds; Kealyne Durham 22 points and 9 rebounds; Joshua Allen 6 points and 4 rebounds; Eric Ballard 13 points and 5 rebounds; J. P. Hicks 1 rebound; D Purvis 1 rebound.

Oakwood vs Slocum

In a low-scoring game the Panthers lost to Slocum 39-29. Both teams started cold from the field and Slocum held a twopoint lead at the end of the first period and increased the margin to an eleven-point advantage at half time. The Panthers outscored Slocum in the second half by one point but lost the contest 39-29. The Panthers only shot 34% from the field and missed several free throws in the fourth quarter. The Cougars had a season-best of only eleven turnovers for the game.

The Panthers host Kennard on January 20 and travel to Douglas on January 23.
