Buffalo's Got Talent!

No doubt about it --
Story and photos by Vanessa Goodwyn

Those in attendance at the BHS auditorium on Sunday afternoon got their money's worth and more at the talent show sponsored by the high school journalism department. Performers included students from the elementary, junior high and high school, and the show included something for everyone: skits, dances, music and comedy.

BHS seniors Chad Nelson and Ryan Cheek served as emcees, and they also teamed up in a comedy tribute to Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash. Their performance of "Jackson" was... uh...hmmm...Special !

There were NO losers in this show, and no one envied judges Dana Morris, Jennifer Garner and Alisia Folsom the job of selecting winners. The trophy winners in their respective categories were: (elementary division) Dani St. Pe' and Natalie Freeman's piano duet; (junior high) Kayla Ray and Cassie Ferguson's jazz dance routine, and (high school) Jordan Nix and Meredith Shaw's rendition of "Our Song".

The fundraiser included a chili dinner and the proceeds will help send members of the journalism department to the University of South Carolina School of Journalism and Mass Communications for the Southern Interscholastic Press Association convention and competition.

Chad Nelson and Ryan Cheek's tribute to June Carter and Johnny Cash would have made the country stars proud. (Can't speak for Ryan and Chad's PARENTS...) If you missed it -- well, maybe there's an encore in their future. The cousins are definitely ONTO something!
