Buffalo students excel at UIL Invitational
Morgan Anderson Several high school students woke up extra-early on Saturday morning to catch a 7:00 a.m. bus to the Snowflake Classic UIL Invitational in Mexia. For most of the students, however, the sleep sarcifice was well worth it.
Invitational meets allow students a chance to participate in the events of their choice before the actual district competition in March. Students can try their hand at any subject--from math to science to journalism--to see if they have what it takes to represent Buffalo High School this year in its new district.
Buffalo representatives claimed sixteen places in Mexia. Three teams brought home the gold and four individuals took first place in their events. Seven students won second through sixth places awards.
Winning teams included Social Studies, Literary Criticism, and Accounting.
First place individuals were: Brooke Trahan, Literary Criticism; Chad Nelson, Computer Science; DeAnne Sterling, Accounting; and Morgan Anderson, Spelling and Feature Writing. Ryan Cheek won second place in Social Studies.
Tristan Brewer claimed third place in Feature Writing. Meredith Shaw took fifth in Literary Criticism, and Jordan Nix placed fifth in Social Studies. Michael Morelock also claimed fifth in Mathematics. Ethan Dujay placed sixth in Feature Writing. Trey Rogers claimed sixth place in Social Studies and sixth in Science. Rogers also had the top chemistry score.
Students will continue to travel to invitational meets to perfect their skills as much as possible before the district meet this Spring.
