The bad luck continued for the Centerville Tigers as they lost to Trinity 46-45 on January 13 and Onalaska 55- 50 on January 16. More ... The Leon Junior High Lady Cougars fell before the Franklin Lady Lions in the Leon gym on January 12. The Cougars trailed by four at the end of the first period and the Lions increased their advantage to eight at half time, 15-7. The deficit grew to eleven at the end of the third quarter (23-12) and the final score was 39-15. More ... The Leon Cougars were defeated 65-47 by a tall and quick Somerville team in non-district action at the Leon gym on January 12. Somerville applied full court pressure throughout the game that kept the Cougars off balance. Somerville had a much taller team and controlled the boards and created a fast tempo to the game. More ... The Leon Lady Cougars continued their stellar play by defeating the Franklin Lady Lions 51-47 on January 13 and the Teague Lady Lions 59-35 on January 16. The Lady Cougars had their hands full as they played an exciting game against the Franklin Lady Lions. Leon came out on top 36-32. The Lady Lions had a six-point lead as the first quarter ended but Leon rallied and cut the deficit to two by intermission. More ... The Oakwood Panthers dropped a game to Laneville 80- 59 on January 13 and lost to Slocum 39-29 on January 16. Oakwood vs Laneville Oakwood dug themselves a big hole by trailing early 17-2 but closed that deficit to nine by the end of the first quarter (22-13). More ... In a quick turn-around to free up the weekend for a tournament, the junior high Lady Bison hit the road last Monday for a rematch with New Waverly's Lady Bulldogs. Buffalo won the previous encounter at the start of the season, but the rematch promised to provide quality basketball entertainment for all. More ... The undefeated junior high boys faced their strongest district opponents on Thursday night at the BJHS gym when the New Waverly Bulldogs came to town. THE EIGHTH GRADE Bison were playing their first game without injured point guard Tate Hartley, and they had their work cut out for them from the beginning whistle. More ... Centerville was THE place to be this weekend as local junior high schools basketball team competed for area braggin' rights. Both gyms at CHS were filled throughout the three-day tournament, and many fans ran back and forth in order to catch both the boys and girls in action. More ... The JV Bison posted one win and one loss last week, to go 3-2 in district play. VS ANDERSON-SHIRO The junior varsity Bison men grew stronger with each passing quarter last Tuesday night when they hosted the Anderson-Shiro Bulldogs. The JV contests were abbreviated, with only 6-minute quarters, but that was long enough for plenty of action for the fans to enjoy. More ... Friday night marked the end of the first half of league play. The Lady Bison secured two wins over Corrigan- Camden to go to 4-3 in district play. The junior varsity had their second highest offensive outing of the season with the 35-10 win over the Lady Bulldogs. The varsity Lady Bison topped their prior best as they won 59-29. More ... An impressive scoring run fueled a district win for the Bison on Tuesday when they hosted the Anderson- Shiro Owls. The teams traded buckets through the first quarter, when the Bison held a 14-13 lead. More ... The Lady Bison picked up two wins Tuesday night when they swept Anderson- Shiro at the varsity and junior varsity level. The junior varsity started things off with a 25-11 win over the Lady Owls.
