Food is just better at the Jewett Flea Market

Leon County folks woke up Saturday morning to a windy, cold January day, but those conditions did not deter avid flea market shoppers from their monthly outing. Patrons scurried along with shopping bags in hand just as though the temperature were a balmy 75 degrees. The day before had been unusually warm and many of the regular vendors were on hand to sell their wares, but some appeared to be closing early as the blowing wind made the canvas of their tents flap like flags on a flagpole.

Going to the flea market is a lot like going to the fair, eatin' the food is half the fun no matter what the weatherman gives you. A popular spot to buy a yummy treat is the Funnel Cake booth where you can get fresh, hot, funnel cakes fried while you wait. Owners David and Barbara Jeffus also sell corny dogs, dipped in batter and prepared like the famous Texas State Fair corny dogs. The Funnel Cake booth has been a popular indulgence for many years.

Not in the mood for funnel cakes or corny dogs? How about an old fashioned hamburger with all the works. Step next door to the burger shop and purchase a burger with enough meat so's you can taste it and a slice of tomato big enough to drip juice down your chin. Be sure to take a lot of napkins.
