Lone Star Community Center plans calendar for 2009
Norma Moore, an avid supporter of the Community Center, works hard on the 2009 calendar. Sherry's Shots The Lone Star Community Center held its regular meeting on January 5, 2009. One of the primary activities of the meeting was to plan the upcoming calendar for the year 2009.
The first scheduled event will be a Country Jamboree on February 21. Mary Trull will prepare hamburgers and fries and have them ready for consumption by 5:00 p.m. Nick Watson is responsible for rounding up the talent for the show which will begin at 6:00 p.m.
On March 7 the Center will host its annual auction. The Center will be open for viewing of auction items at 5:00 p.m. and the auction will start at 6:00 p.m. Sonny Lathrop has been busy accumulating items and more treasures have been donated. Antique furniture, tools, glassware and other really good stuff are on the auction plate. Food will be served throughout the evening. Sonny Lathrop is in charge of the auction.
Easter is a little later this year than last and the Easter Egg Hunt will be held on Saturday, April 11 at 1:00 p.m. This is a gift for kids of the community, so younguns just need to show up with their Easter Basket. The Easter Bunny is sure to make an appearance and there will be refreshments following the hunt. The age range of hunters is birth to 12 years. Norma Moore heads up this function.
May 16 is the date for the second Country Jamboree of the year. Food will be served at 5:00 p.m. and the show will begin at 6:00 p.m. Watson is in charge.
The Center will hold a bake sale at Brookshire Brothers on the day of the Buffalo Stampede on September 19. Proceeds from this sale will go to purchase prizes and food for the Halloween Carnival. Noni Ward and Mary Trull head up this activity.
The annual Halloween Carnival will be held on October 31. This is a change from previous carnival dates because it falls on Halloween night rather than the Saturday night before Halloween. Since the holiday falls on Saturday this year, the group decided to have the carnival on that date. The doors will open at 6:00 p.m. and games will close at 9:00 p.m. Anyone interested in working at the Carnival should contact Noni Ward or Norma Moore.
The annual Turkey Shoot will be held on November 11 and will begin at 9:00 a.m. Shooters bring their own shotguns and shells. Some folks have been concerned that real turkeys are being shot but that is not the case. Shooters aim at paper targets and the person who gets closest to the bulls eye wins either a turkey or ham, both of which have been previously processed for the kitchen. Earl Hill Moore is head honcho of the Turkey Shoot.
The third County Jamboree is scheduled for November 21. Food will be served at 5:00 p.m. and the show will begin at 6:00 p.m. Call Nick.
The Community Christmas Party will be on December 5 at 7:00 p.m. There will be a covered dish dinner followed by music, games and fun. Sherry Matney plans the party.
The Flo Volunteer Fire Department meeting is held the first Thursday of each month and the Lone Star Community Center meeting is on the first Monday of each month. The Community Center is open for family reunions and many Saturdays have already been reserved.
