The Buffalo Bison enjoyed a long-awaited first district win when they hosted the Leon Cougars on Friday. The men's victory helped soften the blow of the girl's loss at the hands of the Lady Cougars earlier in the evening. More ... The Buffalo Lady Bison and Lady Cougars of Leon faced off in the BHS gym on Friday for what everyone knew would be a Battle Royale -- and sure ‘nuf, it was. BHS came into the contest 8-0 in District and LHS was 8-1, having lost only to Buffalo (52-46 in their first meeting). With a share in the district lead on the line, both teams had come to play. More ... Turnovers plagued the JV Bison men early in their game with Leon on Friday, and Riley Noey and company took good advantage of the opportunities afforded to them. As a result, BHS spotted Leon 18 points before Lane Shelton finally put the Bison on the board with a pair of free throws and the score was 2-18 after one. More ... The Centerville Lady Tigers posted wins over Crockett and Anderson-Shiro last week to go 10-0 and clinch the district championship, with two games still remaining in the regular season schedule. More ... The JV Lady Tigers had difficulty with the much taller Bulldogs of Crockett and suffered a 28-40 defeat. At half time the Tigers trailed 16-23 but the Tigers had trouble rebounding and hitting their shots in the second half and fell 28-40. Katie Ellis scored 10 points while Kelsey Lagrone tossed in 8 to pace the Tigers. More ... On Tuesday the Centerville Tigers varsity men tangled with the district leader Crockett Bulldogs, a tall, athletic team with a deep bench. The Tigers played tough all night and were very competitive but the Bulldogs proved to be too much to them. More ... Oakwood Lady Panthers Head Basketball Coach Ashley McGruder had a lot to be excited, and nervous, about when OHS plays their big rival game against the Neches Lady Tigers. This is Coach McGruder’s her first year at Oakwood, her team is mostly freshman, there is a long-standing rivalry, AND the Neches Coach was her basketball coach during her senior year of high school! More ... Last week the Oakwood Panthers Varsity basketball team played two games, one away and one at home. In Laneville against the Yellow Jackets: More ... The Oakwood Lady Panthers Varsity Basketball team has been traveling on their quest for a District title. In Douglass against the Maidens: More ... The junior varsity girls were well-matched and had an exciting game when Leon came to Buffalo on Friday afternoon, January 26. Buffalo led 7-3 after one, but Leon had closed to within one at halftime. The contest was tied going into the final quarter and it was still anyone's game in the final minute of play. LHS' Maci Reimer hit her third trey, and Buffalo trailed 15-18 in the final seconds. More ... The Bison Booster Club made a generous donation of $6000 to the girls' athletic program in a presentation on Friday night. Club President Gene Pruitt, Jr. explained that they had requested that BHS' coaches submit a wants/needs list and there were several things that the girls' program needed, including bats and an ice therapy tub.
