Commissioners hold first of two Public Hearings
     Following adjournment of the Commissioners regular meeting the Commissioners went into a Special Called Meeting which, Judge Byron Ryder explained, is the 1st of two Public Hearings that are required before the budget and tax rate may be approved.

Hot dogs and watermelon at “Dog Days of Summer” outing
     Dog Days of Summer was the theme for the second year at Ft. Boggy State Park as Friends of Ft. Boggy handed out hot dogs and watermelon to encourage support of the park. Several families clustered around the picnic area and kids enjoyed the clear lake waters as they frolicked and played below the partly cloudy sky.

CISD adopts budget and new tax rate
     Centerville ISD had “a good day” on August 27, 2014 and the mood in the meeting room reflected as much. According to CISD Superintendent Jason Jeitz $17 million in CISD school bonds went on sale on August 27 and were sold within 1.5 hours. Jeitz was also pleased because the proposed tax increase for the actual budget was less than the published amount.

Buffalo Ex-Student Homecoming reunion planned for October 3-4
     The Bison vs Trinity game on October 3rd will be the homecoming game this year. A fellowship meeting for classmates will begin at 4:00 p.m. at the new high school. A catered meal by The new Baby J’s Restaurant in Buffalo will follow. Those planning to attend should contact Pam Ferguson at pamelafter@yahoo.com to make reservations for the $10.00 meal.

AARP briefer provides keys to healthy aging
     The monthly meeting of Buffalo AARP Chapter 2870 was held on Tuesday, 19 August 2014. The group applauded the August birthdays of Helen Motl; Betty Mundy, Susie Eagans, and Sam Hays; and the 45th August anniversary of Jim and Nadine Lenox.

Leon EEA joins summer retreat
     Leon EEA met on August 19-20, 2014 with the other counties of District 8 for their annual Summer Retreat at Riverbend Retreat Center, Glen Rose, TX. Nyanza Price, District 8 Director welcomed all participants and thanked them for coming. The host counties, Bell, Hamilton and Williamson, coordinated the program for the gathering with the theme of “Recycle, Reuse and Repurpose.”

     08/20/14 Jerry Grimes responded to Centerville for the report of an alarm and Centerville for the report of theft. Jimmy Gifford was dispatched to Leona for a K-9 call out and Oakwood for the report of a disturbance – Family Advocate contacted.
