I’ve got spurs that jingle, jangle, jingle
     Last week the Leon County Expo Center was host to a group of veterans who were taught the skill of making one piece spurs. Semper Fi Fund, an organization who helps post 9/11 wounded and disabled veterans, sponsored the event. Several craftsmen from the area were engaged to teach the craft of spur making to veterans who came from all corners of the U.S.

Art Demonstration at First Baptist Church
     First Baptist Church Buffalo held a quarterly birthday party for folks who have a birthday during the months of January, February and March. Special guest Carl Puett preformed a demonstration of how to construct an oil painting and provided background information on artists whose names are easily recognizable.

LCRTA give the gift of reading
     Leon County Retired Teachers Association (LCRTA) presented 262 books to the Oakwood Elementary Library. LCRTA is part of the Texas Retired Teachers Association’s (TRTA) plan that promotes children’s reading. As lifelong educators, LCRTA encourages children to read. Reading fosters knowledge and opens up the imagination.

Local youth wins calf scramble at Fort Worth Stock Show
     FORT WORTH, TEXAS, JANUARY 25, 2016 – Candace McGuire, a member of Leon County 4-H, caught a calf during Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo’s Calf Scramble, earning a $500 purchase certificate for a show heifer and the chance for up to $10,000 in scholarship awards. McGuire’s parents are Connie and John McGuire. McGuire’s award was sponsored by The Projects Group.
